Among thousands of festivals in Nepal “Shivaratri” or “Maha Shivaratri” is one of the most popular one which is solely dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is a national festival where people go to temple of Lord Shiva to worship and get blessings. In Kathmandu, thousands of people go to “Pashupatinath Temple” UNESCO Heritage Site to celebrate.

The core theme of this tour is to make your participation in this festival. Beside this, you will be visit historical places like Bhaktapur and Patan Durbar Square, Pokhara and quite short trek to Austrian Camp.

Itinerary
Day 01

Arrival in Kathmandu. (1341 m)

Upon arrival in Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport, meet Himalayan Holidays representative, assist and transfer to the hotel. At the hotel’s lobby welcome refreshments will be served and room check in assistance will be provided. Shortly, there will be a tour briefing at the hotel’s lobby.

Eve: Welcome dinner at a traditional Nepali restaurant featuring cultural dance program.

Day 02

Sightseeing tour of Kathmandu City.

Am: After breakfast, proceed for a sightseeing tour of Kathmandu City. It includes visit to the Swayambhunath Stupa situated atop a hill from where you could get a bird’s eye view of Kathmandu Valley. The Swayambhunath Stupa is also known as the “Monkey Temple”!!

After that , visit to the Hanuman Dhoka (Kathmandu Durbar Square) – an ancient durbar (palace) with its numerous old palaces, temples and pagodas, the Temple of Living Goddess “Kumari”, and the Kasthamandap Temple, which is believed to be constructed from the wood of a single tree from which Kathmandu derives its name.

Pm: After lunch drive up to Pashupatinath Temple. It is the Temple of Lord Shiva situated on the bank of the holy Bagmati River. Today you will see hundreds of Sadhus camping in the Pashupatinath premises. They have travelled from different parts of Nepal and even India to worship Lord Shiva and get blessings.

Day 03

Attend the festival Maha Shivaratri at Pashupatinath

Am: After breakfast drive to Boudhanath Stupa – an ancient colossal stupa and the center of Tibetan Buddhism in the world.

Pm: After lunch, drive to Pashupatinath temple to attend the Maha Shivaratri Festival. Explore around the festival area, experience the culture, in-fact travel like a local and enjoy every moment of it.

Eve: Drive back to hotel and rest.

Day 04

Drive to Pokhara. (205km / 6 hrs)

Am/Pm: Early morning breakfast and start 6 hours scenic drive to Pokhara by very comfortable public tourist bus with a/c, which is 205 kilometers from Kathmandu. Pokhara is an enchanting city nestled in the tranquil valley (827m) on the laps of the mighty Annapurna Himalaya Range. With its beautiful lakes, lush green surroundings and fantastic views of the Annapurna range including the Fish Tail Mountain; it is considered one of the nature’s finest gifts to NepalPokhara is also known as vacationer’s paradise and city of Lakes.

Eve: Sunset boat rides at Phewa Lake.

Day 5

Drive from Pokhara to Phedi and Start trek to Dhampus. (1,700 m/3 hrs)

Am: After breakfast, drive from Pokhara, to Phedi (your journey to wilderness begins from here) for 30 minutes, whereupon commence trek to Dhampus (1700m). The trek starts immediately with a steep climb through mixed forests and takes about an hour to arrive at the Mina Lodge, which marks the end of the steep path and arrival at Dhampus Plateau. From here the incline is much easier as the trail continues to climb steadily in more forested area and after about two hours we arrive at the first check post at the entrance to Dhampus Village with a maze of houses and alley ways of stonewalls. There are magnificent views of the mountains from west to east of the Annapurna South (7,219m), Hiunchuli (6,441m), Mardi Himal (5,587 m) and Macchapucchare (6,993m) to the north. Trek Duration – 3 hrs.

Day 6

Trek to Landrung. (1646 m/5 hrs)

Am: After breakfast, visit the Annapurna Conservation Area Project office to register and continue on the trek. After leaving the village, we continue on the trail going down a fairly gentle slope cut into steps in the middle of the forest and then a short climb brings us to the settlement of Pothana (2,000m) after an hour with magnificent views of the western Himalayas. The path from here slowly ascends until it reaches the locality of Bichok Deorali (2,149m) located at the crest of the ridge. From here, the trail descends slowly but gets steeper until it meets the Modi Khola Valley first and then the village of the Bheri Khola, which is a convenient place to stop for lunch.

Pm: After lunch, cross a small suspension bridge as the path follows the ridge of a hill for an hour to the settlement of Tolka (1,895m). Then cross the hamlets of Tolka Naga and Tolka Medi Gara before again going down gently towards the village of Landrung on a trail where the forest gives way to vast expanses of terraced cultivation covering the surrounding hills. Trek Duration – 5 hrs.

Day 07

Full Day jungle activities

Am: After breakfast walk to end of the village to the junction, we follow the left trail steep descent to Modi Khola. The right trial leads toward Chhomrong and to Annapurna Base Camp.

After short break at Rivers  ide, start climb towards Ghandrung Village for Lunch. This is the largest Gurung village in Nepal where the sons and male member of the local community have sacrificed their lives to serve for the Gurkha Armies and security Forces around the world. The brave and chivalrous Gurkhas have earned themselves the reputation as the most loyal and indomitable soldiers in the world!

Pm: Walk around ancient Gurung Village visit to the Gurung Museum and a tea break at the home of a renowned Gurkha soldier who may show you his Victoria Cross won during the first or Second World War.

Day 08

Enjoy sunrise view and Drive back to Pokhara (884 m).

Am: Wake up early to enjoy the magnificent sunrise view over the Annapurna Himalayas. After breakfast walk to the nearby jeep station to board the waiting Jeep to Pokhara, which will takes around 2.5 hrs.

Pm: Upon arrival in Pokhara check in at a hotel for some rest and refreshments. Rest of the day is free for leisure.

Eve: Stroll around colorful lakeside Bazaar and dine at nice restaurant.

Day 09

Drive to Bandipur (80 Kms/ 2.5 hrs)

Am:  After breakfast, you will drive to Bandipur. It is an ancient, old town of Newari People, which offers beautiful panoramic view of Mountains and lively culture of Newar community.

Pm:  After having lunch at Bandipur, you are all free to explore the town and culture and history.

Day 10

Drive to Chitwan.(147 Kms/5 hrs)

Am: After breakfast, start 5 hours (147kms.) scenic drive to Chitwan National Park, Chitwan by public tourist bus with a/c via Prithivi Highway.

Pm: Arrive in Jungle lodge for room check in & lunch and refreshment. After refreshment meet by naturalists for activities briefing in and around National Park & participate on Jungle and Cultural activities escorted by an experience Naturalist.

 Eve: In the evening, the well-stocked bar caters to the needs of the thirsty and a hearty meal of continental or Nepalese cuisine will be served around the campfire.

Day 11

Full-day jungle activities.

Am: Early wakeup call and proceed for an elephant ride or a jungle walk, to view the wildlife in their early repose. This is the best time of the day to see the animals as we silently brush through dewy tall elephant grass (18-20 ft. tall), a habitat for rhinos, tigers and other wild animals. Spend 2-3 hrs in the jungle, and then return to the camp for breakfast. Shortly afterwards, visit the elephant stables to get a firsthand knowledge on elephants from senior naturalists. Here one can witness the rare scene of elephants at bath.

Pm: After, a hearty lunch at camp, the afternoon is free for the much-deserved mid-afternoon siesta or a visit to the library for general information’s on the National parkIn the late afternoon, there is a choice to participate in the programs offered at the camp, which includes Canoe rides/ floats or an escorted Nature walk and bird watching excursion and Jeep Safari.

Day 12

Drive back to Kathmandu (7 hrs) and rest

Am / Pm: After breakfast, check out from Jungle lodge and drive back to Kathmandu by public tourist bus with a/c. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, meet assist and transfer to hotel for room check in.

Day 13

Visit Patan and Bhaktapur Durbar Square

Am: After breakfast drive to Bhaktapur City, literally the “City of Devotees”, is renowned for its elegant art, fabulous culture, colorful festivals, traditional dances and the typical Newari lifestyle. Here explore the Royal Palace, the Golden Gate, and the entrance to the Palace of 55 Windows, known as the most significant piece of art in Nepal. Then visit the highest temple of Nepal Nyatapola Temple.

Pm: After lunch drive back to Patan City, this ancient city of Patan also known as Lalitpur or the city of fine. The city is full of Hindu temples and Buddhist monuments. The major tourist attractions of Patan are: Durbar Square, Krishna Mandir, Mahaboudha, Hiranya Verna Mahavihar. After the tour, transfer to hotel.

Eve: Group farewell dinner.

Day 14

Final departure from Nepal.

Check out from the hotel and meet Himalayan Holidays representative and transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu for final departure.   (Breakfast)
