Itinerary
Arrival in Kathmandu
Upon your arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, our representatives will receive you .You will be transferred to your respective hotel in a private vehicle. You can rest to overcome flight tiredness streets of Kathmandu later on evening. Overnight stay at Kathmandu.
Trek arrangement and packing day
Today we will meet and have some discussion about the trek. On this day only you will meet your trekking guide and if possible other crew members likewise, we will also arrange you trekking equipment and accessories needed for trek. Such items can be rented or bought as per your request. Moreover we will assist you in the process of obtaining trekking permits for Kanchenjunga trekking you need conservation area permits and other special permits.
After all these arrangement, you are ready to trek next day. Meanwhile in the free time, you can go for sightseeing around the Kathmandu valley. We recommend you to visit UNESCO world Heritage sites in Nepal such as the Pashupatinath temple, Swayambhunath temple, Bouddhanath Stupa, overnight stay in Kathmandu.
Domestic flight to Bhadrapur (40 to 45 minutes)
On 3rd day, you will board domestic flight from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur. To reach Bhadrapur airport you should travel 621 km in flight from Kathmandu. It will take about 45 min to reach Bhadrapur (Chandragadhi Airport) via flights. Bhadrapur is also famous as the ‘Tea city of Nepal’ from here only you will start your wonderful trek to Kanchenjunga. You can observe big markets in Bhadrapur, where lots of handcraft kept for selling. Similarly Bhadrapur is famous for rice cultivation and for this you will see large numbers of rice mills there. Overnight stay at Bhadrapur.
From Bhadrapur to Taplejung (1820m), about 8 hours walking
On the 4th day, after having breakfast we drive to Taplejung through Mechi Highway. It will take up to 8 hours driving to reach Taplejung via Phidim. The total distance you cover in doing so, is 247.3 kilometers. At first we drive towards Ilam, the queen city hills. It offers beautiful hills with temperature climate and cultivations. Then we head to Phidim, on the way evening the beautiful sceneries and finally reach to Suketar. Suketar is the beginning point of your trek. Overnight stay in Suketar Taplejung.
Trek from Suketar to Chirwa (1270m), 6-7 hours walking
Today, after morning breakfast in Suketar, you start your trek to reach Chirwa. In doing so, we follow the Kanchenjunga trekking route and cross the number of small villages such as mutluna, Sinwa Tawa. During your journey in reaching Chirwa, you will have to cover a long distance of 1200 meters. You will get enjoy the unlimited scenic beauties of all along the trek. Finally, we reach to reach Chirwa, a small Limbu village with lodges, shops and Campsites. You will spend about 6-7 hours in reaching Chirwa from Suketar. Overnight stay at Chirwa.
Trek from Chirwa to Amjilosa (2520m) 8-9 hours walking
Today’s trek is long (17km) and very tedious. So, you will start early morning after having breakfast, at Chirwa village. You will trek in narrow trails along withj east bank of the Tamur River. First, you will reach a Chhetri village in Taplethok 1320m. You will need to show your permits here as it has Kanchenjunga National Park check point. Then you will cross the Simbuwa Khola original from Yalung Glacier.
After that, we drop down to Tamur River, and trek alongside the river. You cross the suspension bridge over Tamur River, and walk along the steep to a campsite at river side. After sometime you will reach Tibetan village (Sakathum. You will take short breat at Sakathum. After that, you climb to a village at Chaiyabari 2150 meters. Here the trail passes cross a gorge after a climb from Solima. Then, you have to trek uphill and downhill tricky trail, to reach Amjilosa, a Tibetan settlement area. At Amjilosa, you can interact with Sherpa and Tibetan People. Overnight stay in Amjilosa.
Trek to Gyabla (2730m) about 4 hours walking
Today’s trekking is comparatively easier. The distance is shorter, after having breakfast at Amjilosa, you will head towards Gyabla. Initially, we climb to Ghunsa valley, where human settlement is absent so you won’t see any villages while trekking along the trail. Overnight stay at Gyabla.
Trek from Gyabla from Ghunsa (3995m), 5-6 hours walk
On the 8th day, you are likely to cross the 3000m evaluation marks. Your day starts with a steep descent into a gorge. Then after you trek through the forest of rhododendrons and firs. The trail goes alongside the riverbank, to beautiful yak postures in Pholey (3210m). Pholey is Tibetan village, which is influenced by the Tibetan Buddhist culture, and its famous for potato cultivation and beautiful monastery. You will continue your trek above Pholey through the green field and larch forest. And you descend down to the riverside Ghunsa Khola. Then cross the Ghunsa Khola and enter the Ghunsa village. Overnight stay at Ghunsa.
Acclimatize at Ghunsa (3995m)
After tedious 8 days of trek; we acclimatize for a day in Gurung village. This rest day, helps us to get adapted to the high altitude sickness. Moreover, rest doesn’t mean staying in your hotels all the time; you are going to hike through the lush forest to visit the Lpasan La Monastery. You are going to get fascinated by the old monastery. After enjoying in the monastery, we descend down to our hotel at Ghunsa. Overnight stay at Ghunsa.
Trek to Kambachen (4050m), about 5-6 hours walk
On the 10th day, we follow the off the beaten trails of Kanchenjunga north with motive to reach Kambachen. Trekking north of Ghunsa, we will cross the mind blowing terrain and ascent gradually through the forest of larch and Juniper. Then we trek along the east bank of river and cross wood stone bridge placed over it to reach Rambuk Kharka (3720m). The trail after Rampuk Kharla passes across waterfall and is prone to landslide. So, you need to catch your steps. This hard walk offers us splendid views of Mt Jannu 7710m along with Jannu glacier.
Right after that, we descend along the mountain side to reach Kambachen settlement area. At Kambachen you will find only small stone tea house. Thus, camping is way better than staying there. If you choose to camp at the base of Jannu glacier, then you get reward with magnified views of Kanchenjunga and Jannu Peak (also known as Terror Peak). Overnight stay at Kambachen.
Trek from Kambachen to Lhonak (4780m) about 7 hours trek
Today, the trail enters an isolated landscape. You will trek above the terrains carved with icy blades of high evaluation glacier. The trail goes gradually above moraine debris. Its quiet slippery, watch the steps and walk slowly. Then after, some walking you wiil reach beautiful pasture area of Ramtang (4350m). From Ramtang Kanchenjunga Glaciers starts.
Similarly, you will visit Ramtang Monastery located next to Bridge after a waterfall. Then you continue the trails along the north bank of the river. You will cross over the Lhonak glacier and immediately you see stunning mountain surrounding from your all side. Overnight stay at Lhonak.
Trek from Lhonak to Pangpema (Kanchenjunga base camp) (5065m), about 6 hours trek
Today you will hike to the Kanchenjunga North base camp. The Namchenjunga base camp is named Pang Pema locally. You will have best experience while hiking Mt. Kanchenjunga North base camp. On reaching Pang Pema you will gradually climb the rocky trails in the line of moraine. Pang Pema provides the towering view of Kanchenjunga. Overnight stay in Pang Pema.
Exploring Day for Acclimatization
Today you will explore the Pang Pema. You will trek to the nearby ridge to witness the beautiful Himalayan views of Mt. Jannu, the north face of Kanchenjunga and the Lamjung Himal. Likewise, you will explore the magnificent vistas of the glaciers with all the discovery , you will stay overnight at Pang Pema.
Descent back to Ghunsa (5140m) 7 hours trek
On this day, you will give fare well to the North Kanchenjunga base camp and descend down to Ghunsa village. You will descend down to Lhonak, Kambachen and finally to Ghunsa. On the way you will rejoice the mesmerizing Himalayan sceneries along with the vistas of Glaciers and waterfalls. Overnight stay at Ghusa.
Trek from Ghunsa to Sele Le (4290m) 6 hours trek
Early morning of 15th Day, we follow the diversion, leaving the trail to Gyabla. This diversion takes us to Sele Le. Sele Le is also isolated mountain region, far from human settlements. Almost each point of trail passes through dense forest of rhododendron and Juniper. Several trekkers claimed that they had seen snow leopard at Sele Le, so don’t walk far from tea houses (if interested in side trip alone). Overnight stay at Sele-Le.
Trek from Sele Le to Tseram 8 hours’ trek
Early in the morning, you trek up to the ride of Pang Pema enjoying the crisp clear views. From there you climb up 400 m to the Nirgin La Pass. At the time of climbing you can witness the splendid views of Mt Jannu, Makalu, Baruntse, Kanchenjunga and Kabru along with views of Himalayan range. Right after that, you trek to Lapsang La Pass (5100m). Here, weather condition is so unpredictable, so be prepared. At last, after tideous day, we finally descent to Tseram. Overnight stay at Tseram.
Trek from Tseram to Oktong base camp (5364m) about 7 hours’ hike
On this day, you will visit the Yalung glacier along with the Oktang base camp. Right after our breakfast, we head towards oktang 7 km far. You will trek gaining same elevation 300m. During the climb you will observe beautiful glimpse of snow covered mountains and ridges. From the view point of Oktang you will see the stunning views of Mountains such as Rothang and Kabru. During your trek, the higher you ascent, the views of the Yalung Glacier becomes more wonderful. Finally, you will reach the Yalung Glacier and explore its alluring features.
Now you walk further through a set of ablation valleys to reach the Oktang base camp, also known as south base camp. Oktang provides you mind-blowing view of Khumbakarna glacier. Moreover, you can see mesmerizing views of south face of Kanchenjunga. Also, views of the frozen lake and streams are offered in various point of our trek. We descend to Tseram after enjoying the views of Kokthan, Rathong and Kabru. Overnight stay at Tseram.
Trek from Tseram to Tarangden (2995m) 7 hours’ trek
Today, you descend downhill to the lower altitudes. On our way down, you will observe splendid view of Kabru and Rathong once again. Walking further, we pass through the rhododendron and pine forest. Then after, you will walk along the trail following Simbua Khola and then through forest to reach Tarangden.
Overnight stay at Tarangden.
Trek from Tarangden to Yampudin (2080m) about 7 hours’ trek
Today, you are going to trek through the most difficult section. You will trek in the landslide prone trails. So, hike is through and you need to be careful while ascending. So, hike is tough and you need to be careful. Then after, you climb 600m up to Lamite Pass (3500m). The climbing is hard, so you need to be watchful while ascending. Now, you will cross a suspension wooden bridge over the junctions of river and continue walking through the forest of pines and Rhododendrons.
Then you walk across Lamite Bhanjyang and Amji Khola. After that again we climb to reach pass at Dhupi Bhanjyang (2540m). From here the trail leads you to the cultivable fields. Then we will cross a ridge to reach mixed community of Sherpas, Limbus, Rai and Gurung called Yamphudin.
Overnight stay at Yampudin.
Trek from Yampudin to Khebang (1910m) 7-8 hours trek
After having breakfast, you will head down to Khedung. During ascending, you trek through different villages of Chettri and Bhamhins. So, you will witness the peculiar culture and traditions along with their lifestyle. Descending through various ups and downs is tedious but you will be given company by wonderful views along the trail. You will reach Khebang in about 7-8 hours walking. Overnight stay at Khebang
Trek from Khebang to Khandembe (1420m) 8-9 hours trek
Today you trek a long trail with motive of reaching Khandembe. After breakfast, you will descend 1000m in about 6 km of trek. You will reach Doban and have a lunch here. Right after Lunch you will trek 8 km further through the straight village path and reach the Khandembe. Overnight stay at Khandambe.
Trek from Khandembe to Tharpu (1600m) 4-5 hours trek
Day 22nd is the last days of your actual trekking. Today, you hike 12oom upto the Tharpu village. Tharpu village is amazing village with views of Kanchenjunga range. Likewise, you are likely to have sunset views at the village. You are likely to have best experience in the perfect viewpoint Tharpu. Overnight stay at Tharpu.
Drive to Bhadrapur, 8-9 hours
Today, we will drive to Bhadrapur airport 190 kms south from Tharpu by local bus/jeep. Your ride will be tedious with many twists turns and frequent windings. However, ride rewards with beautiful natural scenes. Overnight stay at Bhadrapur.
Flight from Bhadrapur to Kathmandu – 40 minutes
Today, you will fly from Bhadrapur to Kathmandu. The scenic flight is about 40 to 45 minutes till you reach to Kathmandu. The view from flight is wonderful. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you officially end your wonderful trek. You can rest for a while, and in the evening join for cultural dinner show. Overnight stay at Kathmandu.
